Aang – Hero’s Journey
The Mundane World
Aang is an airbender living in the Southern Air temple with his friends and the monks who teach them. He does not know he is the Avatar and has a simple life. He is an airbending master
The Call To Adventure
Aang’s adventure began when the monks revealed to him that he was the Avatar. Everything changed for him after that, his friends didn’t treat him the same way and all of the monks except one pressured him to learn the other elements.
Crossing The Threshold
Aang crosses the threshold when he fearfully runs away from the air temple because the pressure to be the Avatar is too great. He gets stuck in a giant ball of ice and is trapped for a hundred years with his flying bison, Appa.
The Path of Trials
Aang is awakened from his icy slumber by Katara and Sokka of the water tribe. He immediately is tested by Prince Zuko, a banished Fire Nation prince. Zuko and a Fire Nation commander named Zhao compete to find and capture Aang while he makes his way to the Northern Water Tribe.
Master of Two Worlds
Aang learns water bending from a master at the North Pole along with Katara. After Katara masters water bending, Aang learns from her and masters it as well. He has learned more about himself and what it means to be the Avatar and although he still has many journeys ahead of him, he is well on his way to bringing peace to the world.

I really appreciate Aangs’ sense of humor in the midst of great challenges. I find this very admirable and something I always strive for!
