Abraham van Helsing
Origin:
Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”
Professor Abraham Van Helsing is a character in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. He is the expert who is called to investigate the mysterious illness of Lucy Westenra, after she encountered the Count on his arrival to the north of England.
He is the former teacher of Dr John Seward, and is an expert in vampire lore. The nature of his friendship with Seward is based primarily on an unknown event in which Seward is said to have saved Van Helsing form a serious wound. Having realized the nature of Lucy’s illness, and that a vampire is responsible, Van Helsing takes it upon himself to guide the group in their efforts to defeat the count.
As part of the group, Van Helsing travels back to Transylvania to confront the Count and destroy him, so as to rid the world of his demonic presence.
