Taken from Queen Abdullah’s website, this speaks volumes:
“Education = Opportunity
Opportunity to escape poverty. The opportunity to live healthily. The opportunity to hope. Education is a life line.”
Clearly her cause is to champion education, which she does with great vigor in Jordan. But she has moved this a step further by focusing this energy on a global stage, encouraging world leaders to fulfill their commitment to the Millennium Development Goals signed by the 192 United Nations Member States to achieve, “Universal Primary Education, more specifically, to ensure that by 2015, children everywhere, boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling. Currently, there are more than 100 million children around the world of primary school age who are not in school.”
“Educating our children is not just about imposing a body of knowledge on them. Rather, it involves preparing children from the early years for the world in which they will come of age. It means instilling a love for lifelong learning, creativity, self-expression and an appreciation for diversity.” – 23rd May 2007
Her extensive work with foundations and her international influence has been vital in communicating this message effectively. She has worked with the World Economic Forum, The Forum of Young Global Leaders, The International Youth Foundation, Foundation for International Community Assistance and the United Nations, amongst others.
